Homemade Teeth Whitener - Dr.Axe

Homemade Teeth Whitener

Total Time: 2 minutes
Serves: 1-2


  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 mashed strawberry
  • 3 drops lemon essential oil


  1. Mix baking soda with strawberry until a paste forms.
  2. Add in essential oil drops. Put paste mixture on your toothbrush and brush teeth for 2 minutes.
  3. Rinse mouth and brush teeth with normal tooth paste.
  4. Use immediately after preparing ingredients. May store in refrigerated space for an additional 1-3 days. Mix before each use.

    Is this safe to do while breastfeeding? All the ingredients appear to be safe but I wanted to make sure this was a safe alternative to the options provided by the dentist that are not safe to use.

    I usually use a combination of coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint essential oil to brush my teeth. Do you see any problem with using that after using this whitening formula?

      It should be fine, just make sure you only use the teeth whitening formula 3 times max each week and make sure that you have an adequate amount of coconut oil in your toothpaste recipe.

Can this be used indefinitely? and if substituting juice from real organic lemons for the lemon essential oil and you mentioned “you less of it”, can you recommend a specific number of lemon juice drops to use?
