Description

A hot chocolate mix is about as far from a homemade hot cocoa recipe as you can get. The first item listed is sugar! Instead, make your own with nutrition-rich coconut milk and prepare to be delighted.

Ingredients

Scale
  • one 13.5 ounce can reduced fat coconut milk
  • 1.5 ounces 85% dark chocolate bar
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder made from bone broth
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)

Topping:

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot, add in coconut milk, dark chocolate bar, bone broth powder, raw cacao powder and maple syrup.
  2. Turn heat up to medium-low and let mixture melt. Give it a whisk.
  3. Take the vanilla bean and slice length-wise in half. Using your fingernail or spoon, scrape out the seeds and put directly in hot cocoa mixture.
  4. Whisk together hot cocoa mixture until all is melted and well-combined.
  5. Pour in two mugs and top with whipped coconut cream, if you desire. Add a dash of cinnamon to the top.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

Where to get reduced fat coconut milk? Most supermarkets carry it, as does Trader Joe’s.
