Moisturizing your face is a very important part of having — and maintaining — youthful-looking skin. But choosing the right moisturizer can be confusing. If you need a homemade face moisturizer for dry skin, look no further!
Most off-the-shelf products contain chemicals that can actually damage your skin and affect the endocrine system. (1) Providing proper nourishment (inside and out) will leave the skin softer, more elastic and well-hydrated. With a few key, natural nutrients, you can enhance your skin and achieve a more youthful appearance — it just takes consistency. Here’s my moisturizer recipe for dry, aging skin that I’m sure you will love. (2)
Homemade Face Moisturizer for Dry Skin
Start with a small heat-safe bowl in a pan of hot water or use a double-boiler. Place the shea butter in the bowl until melted. Loaded with vitamin A, shea butter is very nourishing to the skin. It provides much-needed moisturizing while reducing inflammation and boosting collagen production.
Once the shea butter softens, remove it from heat.
Next add the avocado oil and blend with a fork or small spatula. Avocado is not only a super-food for the body, but it is a super-food for dry, aging skin because it nourishes deeply. It is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin D and vitamin E, providing a deep moisturizer for the skin (3)
Rosehip seed oil is the perfect ingredient for a homemade face moisturizer for dry skin since it is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that help hydrate dry skin. A bonus is that it can help reduce dark spots while reducing scars and minimizing wrinkles.
Finally, if the Egyptians used it for radiant skin, so can you. I’m talking about geranium oil. Geranium oil benefits the skin by treating acne and reducing inflammation. It also tightens the skin, which can reduce fine lines. Because of this, it makes a great ingredient in a homemade moisturizer for aging skin.
Now that you have made your DIY face moisturizer for dry skin, you can transfer it to a small jar. Store it in a cool, dark place and it should last a few months. Keeping it in the fridge is also a great option.
Apply your face moisturizer twice a day after washing your face: once in the morning and again at night before you go to bed. Make sure the skin is a bit damp to help lock in moisture. Work it into the skin gently with upward strokes.
