Weight loss & metabolism: where to start.

Weight that won't move despite real effort. It's rarely willpower: insulin, thyroid, cortisol, sleep and muscle decide the outcome, and the labs show which one is in the way.

Where should I start?

Three steps, in order.

1Check the four

Thyroid, insulin, cortisol, sleep.

Common questions

Straight answers.

Why can't I lose weight?

Thyroid, insulin, cortisol and sleep are the four to check; muscle and protein are the two to build.

Is intermittent fasting right for me?

It helps some and harms others — not for pregnancy, eating disorders, or anyone with a cortisol rhythm already running hot.

How much protein do I need?

1.2–1.6 g per kg a day, spread across meals, with 30 g at breakfast.
