Josh

Hey, I'm Dr. Josh Axe, and welcome to the Growth Lab Podcast. Each and every week on the show, I cover the science behind how to take your life to the next level. On today's episode, I'm going to be going through a clip from the Joe Rogan Show where he discusses Bill Gates buying all of the farmland in the United States, as well as pushing an agenda for plant-based meat.

Josh

And we're going to talk about who you should listen to, the top experts when it comes to your health. But take a minute and watch this clip from Joe Rogan.

Josh

Bill Gates is now the largest owner of farmland in the United States. But the thing is, he keeps saying that we've gotta eat less meat and, you know, we've gotta cut our consumption of meat out to be healthy and that we're gonna get used to these meat alternatives. When a guy like that says that, I'm like, are you making money because of this? Like, why are you saying that?

Josh

So as you can see in this clip, Joe Rogan is asking the question, is Bill Gates buying up so much of the farmland in America? And according to recent data, Bill Gates is now the largest owner of farmland in the United States. He has at least 242,000 acres across America. And you could look at this map right here where he has all of his land.

Josh

Again, you see a large amount, especially in Louisiana, in Arkansas, in Arizona, in Washington State, in Nebraska, All over the place. And so, Joe, again, is asking the question, why is he buying up so much farmland? Well, there's a famous quote that basically says, whoever owns the food supply owns the people in a way. Okay?

Josh

And so, if you own the food supply, this is the greatest need people have in order to live along with shelter is we need food, right? We need food in order to survive. And so, obviously, if you're owning uh, part of the food supply, it gives you a level of power in what you're doing. And listen, sometimes power can be used for good, but sometimes it can be used for evil.

Josh

And I think that's one of the things that Joe is questioning here is some of the motives behind what Bill Gates is doing. And I want to get into now some information about Bill Gates and sort of his mission and his investments.

Josh

And then I want to get into this big push by him and other people to remove meat from the diet and get in from the American diet and really have everybody eat just plant-based meat. And there's some other things I wanna get to at the end here as well regarding who should you be listening to regarding your health? Should it be Bill Gates or should it be someone else?

Josh

And I'll point to some of those people. So here's a little bit of history. Gates' mission has been really tied to an organization called Monsanto. He invested in Monsanto in 2010. Gates bought, uh, 500,000 Monsanto shares at around $23 million. And over time, he's continued to invest in biotech companies and food companies, uh, big agricultural companies like Monsanto.

Josh

And Monsanto is an American agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation that now is owned by Bayer, who owns a lot of pharmaceutical companies. Monsanto is also the owner of the herbicide Roundup. Roundup, which has been linked to autism in children and a number of other health issues.

Josh

Now, just last year, Bayer, after inheriting Monsanto's lawsuits, paid out $10 billion to settle an estimated 95,000 cases of cancer reportedly linked to the weed killer Roundup. Lawsuits, including a California jury, has awarded $332 million to one single man who sued Monsanto after contending that his cancer was related to decades of using Roundup himself.

Josh

And as I mentioned, Bill Gates was a big investor in Monsanto, one of the largest single investors. Also, Bill Gates has invested in Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, 2 companies producing beef substitutes, including something called the Impossible Burger, which I think if you look at the ingredients, it's impossible for it to ever be healthy.

Josh

We're talking about so many processed plants that, you know, and we've all seen the studies of soybean oil and a lot of these plant-based oils being tied to heart disease and a number of other health issues. Now, here's a few quotes here from Gates and some of his— some of the people he works with. But here's what Gates said. How can we make enough meat without destroying the planet?

Josh

He asked in a blog post he wrote in 2015. He said one solution would be to ask the biggest carnivores, so Americans and others, to cut back by as much as half, uh, of their meat consumption. So one of the things Gates is asking meat eaters to do, anyone that eats meat, which is the most people, is to cut back on half the amount of meat you use.

Josh

And for some people, it says, hey, go completely meat-free. Now, as a physician, I can tell you that is not the healthiest thing for most people, and we'll get into that in a minute. Here's some other things Gates said. He said, I'm also hopeful about the future of meat substitutes. He says that, he said, it's the future.

Josh

He said, Impossible Burger is one of these companies him and Jeff Bezos invested in. And the goal of Impossible Foods is to make meat obsolete in 15 years. And the founder, Patrick Brown, said, he said, I think people are increasingly aware plant-based products are going to completely replace animal-based products in the food world within the next 15 years. That's our mission.

Josh

The transformation is inevitable, unquote. So that's a quote from him. So, I mean, he's absolutely certain that, you know, animal products will be obsolete in 15 years and we'll be almost all completely doing these plant-based burgers. And I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to jump on social media or on YouTube and let me know if you think that's as crazy as I do.

Josh

Now, here's what Gates also said about this. He says, I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. He said you can get used to the taste difference. He said eventually that green premium is modest enough that you can sort through all the change and change the behavior of people or use regulation to totally shift the demand.

Josh

So he's talking about higher taxes on meat and doing things to cause people to go totally plant-based here. And he also says this— Gates says, I also believe in the power of science to improve livestock. For example, he's invested money into helping farmers produce higher-yield dairy cows and chickens, which lay better quality eggs that may last longer.

Josh

So now, now here's the thing that Rogan starts to question. I think it's a really good question. He says, should we be listening to Bill Gates? Is he this really healthy person or even a background as a scientist who studied longevity and health, that he's the expert on this? And we see he's not.

Josh

In fact, he's also not an expert Or, or a really lead expert in the environment and on the science of things. And so his idea here is, is that animals roaming the planet and people are related to climate change. So he believes the more people or the more animals, the more climate change there are.

Josh

Now, if you think about actually subconsciously that he believes that people, more people and more animals are bad for the environment. So maybe we need less people and less animals. And I would really question anybody's integrity and character that sees humans as bad for the world.

Josh

In fact, there are a lot of— there are some scientists, and Elon Musk actually had quoted some scientists in saying this, that we actually may not have enough people for the planet to be healthy enough with fertility on the decrease as a whole. And people having less kids today actually may in fact be bad for the world in certain ways.

Josh

And I also wanna mention here this quote where Gates is doing a lot of science behind doing higher yielding dairy cows. What I found is, is that's poor animal stewardship. When you have an animal and your goal is just to continually cause them to produce more milk, like a cow, it actually might de— it will likely decrease their lifespan over time because you're overtaxing the system.

Josh

Of that cow versus breeding animals for them just to be as healthy as possible and giving healthier milk and/or eggs or products. See, that's not the goal here. The goal is increasing the yield, not the health of the animals, therefore the health of the people. And so I think there's some problems around that.

Josh

So another clip I wanna show you here quick, or, or, or reshow this clip, is where Rogan is questioning Gates in In terms of him being the expert and authority. Let's watch this real quick.

Josh

When a guy like that says that, I'm like, are you making money because of this? Like, why are you saying that? And by the way, you look like a guy like that telling people about— he's got these breasts and this, this gut. And I'm like, this is crazy. You're one of the richest guys on earth. You have access to the best nutrients. You're giving out health advice and you're sick.

Josh

All right. So you can see here, Gates is not the expert. And I want to go through some proof here On this plant-based meat diet is not healthy for people. In a 2021 study, researchers discovered that those who consumed plant-based meats fell below the daily requirements for calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin B12. By the way, you know where you get all of your B12 from?

Josh

Animal-based meat products. And that's where you get most of your zinc. Okay, um, going on here. Plus, those eating these foods exceeded the reference values for sugar, saturated fat, and carbohydrates. This group did consume more fiber than the meat eaters, which is the one positive. But you can see here there are major nutritional deficiencies.

Josh

And all of these plant-based burgers, they're not from real food. They're from really highly processed food. If you're eating any of these plant- based meat products. Also, lab findings have shown that many of these imitation meat products contain high levels of glyphosate, the toxic herbicide used in Roundup.

Josh

Now, we've seen this with Bill Gates where he's been promoting genetically modified organisms and he's been promoting going meatless and doing a lot of things that he believes might be better for the planet long term. But the question I would have is, is it actually better for people? And the answer is no.

Josh

When But when you look at the actual nutrients compared to grass-fed beef and organ meats and venison and lamb or chicken and wild-caught fish versus plant-based products, there's no comparison. And this goes into the next thing, and this is where Joe Rogan starts giving Bill Gates a really hard time here, as he should.

Josh

And by the way, there's a verse in the Bible that I think sums this up, and it's, by their fruit, you will recognize them. So by their results, by their own health, you'll recognize who to follow. If somebody— here's the thing. If you see somebody that has a great family life, hey, you should follow what they do.

Josh

If you see somebody that has a great marriage, if you see somebody that is great in their career like Warren Buffett, hey, let's listen to what Warren Buffett has to say about investing because he has so much fruit in his life. Well, look at Bill Gates today. What is his health like? It doesn't look that great, right? There are a lot of people that have better health than him.

Josh

And by the way, this is true with a lot of countries today. When you look at the US Assistant Secretary for Health of the United States of America, Rachel Levine, you know, that's not a picture of health. And you can go to many other countries, whether it be the UK or Australia, numerous, numerous countries, the people that are running their health, these are not healthy people.

Josh

And I think we really should start embracing this idea of we should listen to the healthiest people about what to do for our own health. You know, I think about if we're thinking about politics here, RFK, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is a person that really understands health. He's physically fit himself. He's nearly 70 years old. And again, he looks great.

Josh

You know, other people and professionals that are leading health movements, whether it be, you know, Vonnie Hari or Mark Hyman, or there are many other people and colleagues that I have that are fit, you know, people that are medical doctors like Andrew Huberman or Peter Attia.

Josh

These are people who really understand health, and we'd be better to listen to those people regarding how to be healthy versus the Dr. Faucis and the Levines and the Bill Gates of the world when it comes to actually being healthy. I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment in the comment section below. Let me know your thoughts on Bill Gates acquiring all of this farmland?

Josh

Also, what are your thoughts on this plant-based meat movement and the push and agenda to get rid of meat entirely? Also, who do you think that the country should be listening to in terms of what we should be doing for our health and for the environment?

Josh

I'd love to hear who are the people you follow, who are the people you respect, and who should be leading this movement on what we should be doing on a country as a whole In our food system today.
