[Below is my transcript of my video about natural treatment for toothaches, along with supplemental information on the topic.]
Today, let’s talk about home remedies for toothache relief. If you’ve ever had a toothache or you have a young child or a teething baby that has a toothache, you know that it can be painful, either a nagging pain or can really just make you miserable.
Let’s go over my top three natural remedies for curing toothaches fast.
Top 3 Natural Treatments for Toothaches
1. Clove Essential Oil
The first thing you need to use are essential oils. The best essential oil for toothaches according to the medical literature is benefit-rich clove oil. Although it has been suspected for centuries to treat inflammatory conditions, the Journal of Immunotoxicology just recently published the first-ever study proving that the eugenol in clove oil is indeed a powerful anti-inflammatory. In fact, clove actually ranks as the highest antioxidant herb in the entire world today.
Clove is widely accepted as a reliable solution for dry socket and for relieving the pain and discomfort associated with various dental disorders. The Journal of Dentistry, for instance, published a study in 2006 proving that clove essential oil had the same numbing effect as benzocaine, a topical agent commonly used before needle insertion.
Once you get a small bottle of clove oil, simply take just one single drop and rub it right on the area. Now, for teething babies, mix the clove oil with an equal amount of coconut oil and then use that mixture to rub it right on the area.
If you don’t have clove essential oil at home, you can go to the store and actually buy just clove powder, mix that with coconut oil and rub that on the area as well. But I’ve found the oil of clove to be the most effective, even more effective than the clove powder that you’d cook with or bake with at home.
2. Sea Salt
The next thing you want to use for home remedies for toothache relief is sea salt. In fact, the benefits of sea salt include its natural antibacterial activities, so using sea salt in the area by gargling and swishing with water can actually have an analgesic effect.
Rather than using table salt, however, I strongly encourage you to use Celtic Sea Salt® or Himalayan salt, which has over 60 trace minerals and can aid healing.
3. Peppermint Oil
Last but not least, if you really want to soothe or numb the area, use peppermint oil. Peppermint oil contains menthol, which can help numb that area. Simply mix peppermint oil with coconut oil at a 1:1 ratio and rub on the gum area.
To date, there are over 300 scientific studies referring to peppermint essential oils and 2,297 about menthol, so the evidence exists in abundance about how effective peppermint oil can be.
Home Remedy Steps to Take for Toothaches
Ideally, for home remedies for toothache relief, take the following steps. The first thing you would do is swish around sea salt and water in your mouth for two minutes. Next, create a mixture of clove oil and peppermint oil (and possibly coconut oil if you’re using the mixture for an infant) and rub it directly on the area.
If you take all of those simple steps, you’re going to find it’s really going to help you overcome that toothache very quickly.
However, if the pain really gets out of hand, obviously, you do want to go and see your local dentist or schedule appointment to see a dentist.
Some other things you may consider doing is really backing off your sugar addiction. Consuming sugar can feed yeast and bacteria that can be causing a toothache or general inflammation in the area.
