Are Flu Vaccines a Scam?

Winter is soon approaching upon on us and with the colder weather comes the vaccine industry pushing their flu shots, again. By mid October we’re going to be bombarded with all the media hype telling us to get a flu shot! Ever wonder why, if the flu shot worked so well, people are revaccinated year after year? The CDC claims their vaccines work super well and that if vaccinated a person is immune from contracting the flu, and yet, in the same breath they let us know we need to be revaccinated.  Huh?

CDC and Ambiguous Advertising
Revaccinated? What’s that all about? Apparently the vaccine wears off.  Oddly they revaccinate with the very same strain they used in the previous year.  What’s even more strange about this whole CDC picture of being revaccinated is human antibodies are supposed to last a lifetime. This means, say, if you get the chicken pox as a kid you will not develop the chicken pox again because your body creates antibodies which make you virtually immune to contracting chicken pox ever again!

The vaccine industry advertizes that their flu shot vaccine works exactly the same way, meaning the flu shot creates antibodies against that particular viral strain so you won’t get that type of flu ever again! Wow that is quite a claim. I say claim, because that’s all it is since they are pushing revaccination with the same inoculate strain they used last year. So then what is all of this revaccination hype?
When you contemplate this carefully you’ll realize that none of it really makes too much sense, except for the fact that flu shots aren’t free; they cost $25 per shot, according to Eric R. Esterbrook, pharmacist and owner of Esterbrook Pharmacy.  I think it would be safe to say that what they advertize about the vaccines is ambiguous at best.

Have you ever wondered why they push the flu vaccine on perfectly healthy people? This year they are advising that everybody over the age of six months be vaccinated. Last year and the year before it was only children, elderly and those who are immune compromised. Wow, they must have made a big batch of the flu stuff this year!

Do they really care if we get the flu or not?  Aren’t the flu vaccines just another form of revenue for the ones who push it, such as the researchers, manufacturers, pharmaceutical Industry, FDA and others? I mean, why push the flu shot onto perfectly healthy folks? Go figure.

Should I Get a Flu Shot, I’m Healthy?
The truth is most people who get the flu do not have any complications whatsoever, except for being uncomfortable through the duration of the flu. But a small percentage of people have complications. Deaths from the flu are hyped up and spread throughout the media to cause undue fear in people so they’ll rush down and get vaccinated.  The Vaccination Industry is big business and the more people who run down and get their flu shot, the more revenue.

Last year two young men (two different cases) died from simple tooth infections too.  Sadly, they couldn’t afford to have root canals done on their teeth and the infection killed them. This could have been prevented! These kinds of tragedies happen all the time, but they aren’t doing anything about those people who can’t afford to have medical and dental! This is because when it comes out of their own pocket they do not want to have anything to do with it. You never hear about these kinds of tragic and preventable stories because it makes them look bad. The point is terrible complications can arise from someone having a cavity!

It’s true, a very few amount of people will have complications when they contract the measles and they die; some people have complications when they catch the common cold because it turns into an infection in the lungs and they die.  Wouldn’t it be safe to say then that most people do NOT need to have a flu shot? It would be far better for your health to go ahead and contract the flu and ride it out so your body can then truly build up antibodies against that type of flu!

Study after Study Shows the Flu Shot is a Scam

  • A study published in the October 2008 issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine found that vaccinating young children against the flu had no impact on flu-related hospitalizations or doctor visits during two recent flu seasons. The researchers concluded that “significant influenza vaccine effectiveness could not be demonstrated for any season, age, or setting” examined.
  • A 2008 study published in the Lancet found that influenza vaccination was NOT associated with a reduced risk of pneumonia in older people. This also supports an earlier study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
  • Research published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine also confirms that there has been no decrease in deaths from influenza and pneumonia in the elderly, despite the fact that vaccination coverage among the elderly has increased from 15 percent in 1980 to 65 percent now.
  • In 2007, researchers with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the National Institutes of Health published this conclusion in the Lancet Infectious Diseases:
  • A large-scale, systematic review of 51 studies, published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews in 2006, found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo in children under 2. The studies involved 260,000 children, age 6 to 23 months.

Skip the Shot and Naturally Protect Yourself!
Our bodies are not intended to be given noxious toxins such as what the flu shots are made of.  According to an article on doctor Mercola’s website, vaccines have aluminum, sucrose, animal tissues, MSG, and antifreeze in them. Ugh!

The best way to help YOU from getting sick this winter is to take care of YOU. Treat yourself better than you ever have before. That starts with a healthy eating regime. Get healthy now and stay healthy!

  • Eat a wide variety of raw fruits and vegetables (get your seven colors in daily)
  • Cleanse your digestive tract (colon cleanse) before the flu season hits
  • Include more probiotics in your diet now such as yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut
  • Don’t stay up late, de-stress your life and get plenty of sleep
  • Amp up your water intake by two extra glasses a day
  • Eat an organic apple with the skin on every night before bed (helps with constipation)
  • Start juicing today, organic fruits and veggies each morning on an empty stomach (don’t forget to add two or three cloves of natural antibiotic, garlic)
  • Get some sunshine on your skin
  • Exercise regularly even if its brisk walking a few miles every day (get outside and enjoy the fall weather)
  • Don’t let the media hype scare you into getting the flu shot

Be good to yourself! If you happen to get the flu even though you are doing all of these things, your symptoms will be very mild and you will get over it more quickly. You can bet on it! Take care of yourself and let nature take its due course.

Rhank yiu so much for is article. I too have believed that the flushot is just not necessary. I have Fibromyalgia and, in my opinion, the very act of getting the shot would most likely xause a problem with me because of the extreme sensitivity I have to anything. Take your Vitamin D instead and take care of yourself!

  2. Stacy Moore says:

What do you do when the doctor is pushing it on your children?

    • Jennifer says:

Tell the doctor no, that’s what I do

    • Dawn C says:

I tell them no, just like I tell them no when they try to get me to get the Guardicil vaccine for my daughters….You have a right to say no and mean it, they are getting “treated” nicely from the Pharmacuetical companies for every bit of medicine they prescribe and dispense.

      • Breanna says:

When it comes to saying “NO” to the doctor you have to be careful. My mom would do that for us kids growing up and because we were low income the doctor tried to get my mom in serious trouble because she would refuse shots, the guardicil shot, and fluoride at the dentist. Needless to say all seven children are in EXTREMELY great health and we have been educated to take care of our bodies because we are a gift from God.

  3. Helen says:

I do not take the flu shot and I have not had the flu in over 30y. When they ask me to take it I tell them I do not want all that stuff in me it is not good for you. I know they do not like it but my body does not like it

  4. Debra Kraus says:

Ok, you have totally lost my respect with this article! I totally support that people should carefully consider each vaccine, i.e., weigh the risk. The makeup of the flu vaccine is not the same every year, because the virus expected to be the culprit is not necessarily the same. For instance, the vaccine now includes H1N1 protection, but did not in the past. Also, viruses mutate! The nature of the influenza virus changes from year to year. Not all viruses mutate this fast. The chicken pox virus is NOT the same as the influenza virus. Also there are sometimes hundreds of subtypes of some viruses. For instance, there are over 200 subtypes of rhinovirus (causes common colds.) This is one reason most of us get colds throughout our lives. We may have developed antibodies to some of the rhinoviruses, but not others. Some vaccines require boosters and some don’t. Some require re-vaccination and some don’t. You need a good background in microbiology and need to further your understanding of the types of vaccines….it is much more complex than you have led your readers to believe! Also, please keep in mind that getting the flu vaccine is not just to protect yourself, but to protect those that are at very high risk…i.e., non-breastfed newborns, immunocompromised patients, etc….

    • Jenny says:

Thank you for pointing this out. I’m pretty shocked at the lack of knowledge in this particular article. The flu shot is DIFFERENT every year because it’s made to vaccinate against the current flu strain in season. And yes, it’s difficult to predict the exact strains in every part of the country – hence, some people still get the flu – but flu shots HAVE HELPED people stay well.

Please be careful that you do not pass along erroneous information – or in this case, jaded and incomplete information – that could harm your readers. :(

      • Katie says:

You know…I, too, thought it was ridiculous that this author evidently isn’t aware of the VERY commonly-known fact that the flu virus mutates every year just like colds do. The author points out that if you get chicken pox once, you never get it again…but they never stop to think that getting the flu once doesn’t mean you’ll never get it again!

That said, however…this is ALSO the reason that I am against the flu shot. It mutates too fast, and every person I know who gets the flu shot still comes down with the flu…because it’s a different strain than the one they were vaccinated against. (Of course, since this year’s strain didn’t exist last year!) Thus…what’s the point? So yes, they do want our money.

      • Lea says:

How exactly does the flu shot industry know which strain is the current strain? If it varies from one part of the country to the next, why not have different shots?

      • Gail J says:

        Debra & Jenny,

You’re both missing the point. Of course, Dr. Axe knows that the virus mutates. It’s irrelevant to his main point which is that the BODY, when cared for properly, can handle it. It can fight off the germs and viruses around us.

I work with the public and see over a hundred people every day. I haven’t had a cold in probably 10 years nor a flu; even when I’m working with sick people.

    • Dr. Nick says:

Why should I inject neurotoxins and other poisons along with mutated proteins into my bloodstream and into my children’s to “protect” others who aren’t taking care of their health when there is NO proof that the vaccine will actually protect them from getting the flu? That’s the main point of the article. Your comment is making it sound like these vaccines have been proven to work. They haven’t been. The only thing proven about vaccines is that many of their ingredients are PROVEN to be harmful when ingested or injected, so why do it?

      • Mallory says:

This article and this comment bother me. I believe unnecessary chemicals in vaccines may be a legitimate problem, which could be solved through reformulation, and I understand why people are afraid of vaccines if they don’t understand them. Even so, a basic knowledge of immunology can solve this. Vaccines do work — they work on the exact same principles through which your body develops immunity to pathogens it encounters in the world. Your body makes antibodies to the antigen in the vaccine just as it would with the virus. A vaccine allows your body to develop immunity to an attenuated or inactivated virus without actually getting sick from the real thing, so when you come in contact with it your body knows exactly how to fight it. It is true that the influenza virus mutates rapidly and that is why there is an annual vaccine and usually they are different. Although this year’s product has the same strains as last year, it is still important because so many people did not get it the first time around. The reason healthy people need to get the vaccine is because only immunizing those at risk is not effective. The point is to create a “herd immunity” to protect the immunocompromised. This is not necessarily people who “aren’t taking care of their health”. The elderly, newborns, transplant patients, etc. do not have the immune system to protect themselves – the journal articles referenced in this “article” actually support this, and are being taken out of context here. I personally have never had the flu, but I started getting a flu shot a few years ago because I do not want waste time being sick, and I would be ashamed of myself if I unintentionally exposed my grandparents, a little baby, or a helpless transplant or cancer patient to an illness that could be fatal to them. Last year, a physician at a highly reputable children’s hospital in my area exposed several sickly, premature babies to pertussis. She had not gotten the booster shot, contracted the disease, and spent several days at work before realizing it. If you think that is ok, go listen to recordings of whooping cough and you will change your mind. Just look at all of the diseases that have been nearly eradicated or controlled through vaccines — it is our responsibility to protect ourselves and others from preventable disease. If you have a problem with the vaccines, argue for them to be reformulated to a higher standard – not avoided. I’m also not saying that you should always listen to the FDA, CDC, or pharmaceutical companies, but don’t attack something just because you don’t understand and want to claim conspiracy. As for the rise in autism, ADHD, autoimmune diseases, etc., I think we have bigger problems than vaccine formulation. I would look to the junk in the food our country eats, the chemicals in every product we use from the paint on our walls to our “cleaning” products, lack of physical activity, and environmental issues — the stuff that affects us every single day. Even if you change your habits and products, the country as whole has not and that is why we are so sick. If you do not vaccinate your children or yourself, you are only making it worse.

    • Mark Koch says:

Debra – good points regarding the different flu strains, vs same chicken pox virus, but wanted to point out one sentence in the article “Wow that is quite a claim. I say claim, because that’s all it is since they are pushing revaccination with the same inoculate strain they used last year.”. So it looks like the author is saying this is the same stain as last year. (I just checked the CDC website and it appears they are using the same three strains as the 2010-2011 flu season) So is really reasonable to require a booster every year for a vaccine for the same virus? I thought tetanus, chicken pox etc were on a much longer booster schedule.

  5. Linda says:

I had a flu shot about fifty years ago and had the flu, have not had one since & have not had the flu. I worked in a pharmacy for forty years coming in contac with people with flu and everythng else but never got it. Flu shots like a lot of other things is only money in the pockets of the health profession.

  6. Pam says:

I got a flu shot once and had a golf-ball sized lump on my arm for two days. It turned into a lovely green bruise AND, to add insult to the injury, about 3 weeks later I got the flu for the first time in probably 6 years. So, needless to say, I have been flu-shot & flu-free for the past 10 years.

  7. Phyllis Cherry says:

In 2007, one week to the day of getting his flu shot, my husband lost his hearing. It was not gradual, it was sudden! He wears a hearing aid in his right ear. It does little good and he continues to lose hearing in that ear. He lost all in his left ear at the time. None, zero, zilch, nada! Will I take another flu shot? Absolutely not! Do I recommend them to others? Absolutely not!

  8. Lane says:

I would add one more item to the list — wash your hands IMMEDIATELY when you come home and keep hand sanitizer in the car. Our family is vaccine free!!!

  9. Amy Brown says:

My son has type 1 diabetes and gets the flu shot every fall. Do we need to keep getting him a flu shot because of his condition? He is otherwise healthy except for the diabetes. I wonder every year if I am doing the right thing.

    • Gail J says:

Isn’t that absolutely HORRIFYING to you that you are PREGNANT and yet YOUR DOCTOR is actually SUGGESTING you get the Flu Shot?!!
A friend of mine had a baby last month, IS BREASTFEEDING, and her doctor told her SHE MUST get a flu shot. So, she did.

      I’m glad you’re questioning this..

    • Tammy says:

      Hi Anna Maria,

Please know that your doctor is working for YOU, not vice versa! People think they have to “obey” their doctor’s orders. Doctors aren’t GOD. You are in charge of your health and you need to educate yourself when it comes to your health and the health of your precious baby. When your pregnant this is one of the worst times to get a flu shot. Vaccines of any type are VERY damaging to the immune system. What did people do before the flu shot? They simply let it take it’s course and got plenty of rest and drank water. If you get the flu your not healthy anyways and you need to let your body detox naturally by riding it out. Then take better care of yourself by eating lots of fruits and veggies and taking quality supplements, esp. Vit. C, D, and fish oil. ;-)

what can you give a 15month old who had an bad allergic reaction to amoxicillin? on steroids, but it is coming back….(raised rash all over body)

    • Gail J says:

Go to and get books on homeopathy until you FULLY understand the whole concept of how homeopathy works.

80% of the world uses homeopathic medicine primarily (including Queen Elizabeth in England); except the US.

When I was a young mother, someone introduced me to homeopathic medicine and I still own those books I first purchased.
I have a rather comprehensive ‘kit’ in my house.

They are safe – even if you accidentally consumed the whole bottle. They are safe for children, the elderly, everyone, but you need to learn first how it works with your body.

Once you understand, it is a lifesaver and a GOD-send for you and your children.

  13. Helen says:

I am type 1A diabetes. have been for 15y and and I will still not take a flu shot. All it is legal drug pusher as far as I see. If you listen to all the side effects from all the meds you take why would you want them in your body. I sure do not and with being very sensitive to any kind of drug I will do it naturally or find out how too. I do not think we should put chemical in r bodies that should not be there

  14. Joanne says:

the flu shot is a scam… The only times I’ve gotten the flu have been when I’ve had the shot.

In response to Debra K… yes, the viruses mutate, so it’s stupid that they give you a flu shot for previous year’s virus. The flu virus mutates VERY quickly and by next year, this year’s shot will be totally worthless, so tell me again why they use this year’s strain?? Ok… you’re right in everything you’re saying but then you don’t finish the train of thought which is that if it does mutate, then why does the CDC offer the shot against the strain previous to the current mutation? There’s no point to having the flu shot, it’s not ever for the current strain/s.

Additionally, the ingredients in the flu shot are very questionable and some of them even dangerous, so why would anyone subject themselves to something like this, when all that is proven is that the flu shot could be dangerous, not that it prevents the flu?

  15. Trish says:

I am a 15 year registered nurse, Dr Axe is very correct ! A vaccination from 1 type of flu , you should never require vaccination from the same type. Flu is also very preventable with healthy habits and good hygiene. I give hundreds of flu shots each year and have twice as many people that would rather not have it. I have never taken one myself , nor will I. Flu is like Dr Axe said only a few days of discomfort….really no big deal if you know The great Physician. The CDC does put undue pressure on people with scare tactics. Saw a few pt with h1n1…….now you hear about it as much as the y2k false scare. Take care of yourself cannot rely on government , FDA, and CDC to spoon feed your nutrition needs ……

  16. babs says:

i am a nurse working in a hospital setting, if we refuse a flu shot we have to wear a mask around all patients.if we are within 3 feet of them..
That is like someone is twisting your arm….to get the flu shot, and a sticker was placed on my name tag stating i got the flu shot…!!!!!!!!

    • Gail J says:

A real predicament for you, I know.

The ONLY member of my family to get the flu shot is also a nurse at a major hospital. I don’t believe she ‘had a choice’ either.

  17. Jay Bowers says:

    Excellent article my friend!
Love your podcast, and your information is first rate- keep it up!

If you could address Parkinson’s disease in your podcast, I would appreciate it. A friend has contracted it at an early age.

  18. Lori says:

I have never had a flu shot. The last time I was sick was 1997 or 1998. I don’t want to get one this year, but if I do I will save $20 per month on my health insurance. I could use the money, but to compromise my values. What to do, what to do?

    • Gail J says:

They know the ways to ‘getchya backed in a corner’, that’s for sure.

I wonder if the comment about it ‘would be MY fault if I GOT the flu’ meant they didn’t intend to honor my sick pay benefits because I WAIVED the flu shot.
You see where all this is heading..

    • Tammy says:

      Hi Lori,

You may save $20 a month on your insurance but you’ll probably be spending more than that on doctor’s visits and prescriptions caused from the toxins in the shot. Vaccinations are nothing to fool around with. They actually change our DNA and trash our immune system big time.

  19. Craig says:

Can’t get my own family & friends to believe about these shots & other types of shots . The Doc’s are not trained to know this & or they want to make $. One of my sisters has diabetes 2, which can be reversed but won’t go to your website or listen to your talk show on 99.7 FM . She is a retired school english teacher & is well read but not in alternative health methods. I’ve tried! Craig-

    • Gail J says:

Then give her Dr. Gabriel Cousen’s website; his books, and the DVD about curing Diabetes in 30 days (actually much sooner).

It’s easy to hand her a book, and a DVD to watch.
Hello, McFly? Diabetes? What’s that? Most everybody that I know that had it, DOESN’T anymore..

  20. Dan says:

I believe that your environment and health should be considered if you should get a flu shot or not. I can remember working in a setting where we had a lot of young mothers there and I was always picking up something. I usally get a flu shot every year and I have had a one time pneumonia shot as well. I have never had any bad reactions to the most recent vaccinations, however back in the mid 70′s while in the military we were ordered to take them and I always got very sick. Some would say that it was time to get the flu weather you wanted it or not, I believe however I was getting walking pneumonia and not the flu because of an agent they put in ours to weaken the immune system to boost the effects of the vaccine.

    • Tammy says:

Truly healthy people very rarely get sick, period. I’m not one of those healthy people either but I’m on the road to health. Rarely do you find a healthy person. Dr. Axe would be one of them. It’s not about who you’ve been around that’s ill. A strong immune system will not let the flu or other illnesses in your body.

  21. Cathy Singleton says:

Thank You- I have been telling my clients this for years !!!!!!
    Cathy S.

  22. Gail J says:

And just this morning, local News Channel 5 said “Some people are skipping the Flu shots because they feel they can make you sick, are dangerous, and even give you the Flu, and that is simply NOT true. The flu shot will prevent the flu and..”
What THEY are saying is NOT TRUE, and what YOU are say, Dr. Josh, IS.
None of my family members get the flu shot – never have, never will.
In fact, I’m the youngest of 5 – all in our ’50′s and ’60′s now – and I still have TWO sisters who have never been vaccinated for ANYTHING (except Polio). The others, including myself, have traveled, and it was required.
I’m not only tired of having it shoved down my throat, I’m told that if I GET the Flu – then it will be My fault. Well, I certainly don’t WANT the Flu, but I hope to do what I always do, and that is to recover well. My body knows what to do.

  23. Barbara says:

The flu shots cost a little, but insurance usually pays, and so does Medicare. I’m sure money enters into this on some level, but I think it’s more than that. It seems to me that the medical industry is working on getting us to accept their interventions and dictates along with protocols to manage our health that include regular injections, whether we really need them or not, or whether they do anything for us or not.

My little grand daughter was literally grabbed by her pediatrician and given FIVE injections, twice, before she was 6 months old, and without asking her mother’s permission or explaining what was being given. (This is especially disconcerting, as a baby’s immune system is too immature to deal with many of the vaccines until after 6 months. In fact,an infant’s immune system develops slowly over the first year. When the vaccines are given too early they must be repeated over and over. Plus, some of the injections babies are being given are so dangerous they should only be given to children in third world countries where the risk of contracting a dreadful disease justifies the vaccinations. The guidelines come directly from the WHO-World Health Organization-and they are being applied universally, across the board.)

On my grand daughter’s third pediatric appointment, after the doc called her fat without even looking at her chart to see that she is only in the 35th percentile for height and weight, my daughter picked up the baby, walked out of the office and didn’t go back.

Last week, the baby’s daddy gave my daughter an ultimatum to get another doc; and so they have an appointment with a new physician to get my granddaughter’s shots ‘up to speed,’ (Social pressure. The baby is completely healthy). There will be more mandatory shots, now, including the flu shot. (When you have a child, saying ‘no’ is not an option anymore.) At least the little one is going on 14

What I am seeing is that social pressure is being applied with regard to medical interventions-including vaccinations-of all kinds, here; and we are losing our ability to choose for ourselves AND our children. This is getting a little scary.

  24. Aria says:

What about people who are in the health care field? I am going into dietetics & I believe they make you get a flu shot each year if you work in a hospital.

  25. Jamie Lynn Lebrun says:

What if I work as a nurse at a local hospital and they require we receive the shot, or else we will no longer be employed there…. wow.

  26. Katie says:

Apparently they do not teach microbiology at chiropractic school. Most of the information in this article is misleading at best.

  27. Linda says:

I worked in a pharmacy for 38 years, interacting with customers with flu and everything else but I never had a flu shot and never had the flu. I took one flu shot 47 years ago and was sick for two weeks.

  28. Trenni Masterson says:

I am sure by your comment regarding the two individuals who couldn’t afford to get root canals, you were in no way recommending root canals as a healthful approach to dental care. But I could see that some would take it as that. Here is a link from Dr. Mercola’s site that might shed some light on the devastating results of obtaining root canals.

To your health and appreciation for all you do.
