Skippy peanut butter recall - Dr. Axe

If you’re like me, you find yourself eating peanut butter on a regular basis for its versatility and, of course, delicious taste. However, if you are a fan of certain types of Skippy peanut butter, you need to be aware of the recent Skippy peanut butter recall.

What’s behind this Skippy peanut butter recall? Let’s find out.

2022 Skippy Peanut Butter Recall

Here is what Skippy had to say about its peanut butter recall:

From our family to yours, we want you to know that we take the quality of our products very seriously and apologize to our fans for this situation. Please know this recall only affects a very limited number, 9,353 cases, of SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread and SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein. Only this very small amount of product was affected. IMPORTANT: No other varieties or dates of SKIPPY® products are included in this recall.

States where the affected product was shipped: CA, CT, DE, FL, HI, IL, IN, KS, MA, MN, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OK, and WI.

The company went into a little more depth in its announcement sent to the FDA:

Skippy Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling 9,353 cases, or 161,692 total pounds, of a limited number of code dates of SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread and SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter Blended With Plant Protein due to the possibility that a limited number of jars may contain a small fragment of stainless steel from a piece of manufacturing equipment. The code date is located on top of the lid. A photo of the products and “Best If Used By” dates appear below. There have been no consumer complaints associated with this recall to date, and all retailers that received the affected product have been properly notified.

Skippy Foods, LLC, out of an abundance of caution and with an emphasis on the quality of its products, is issuing the recall to ensure that consumers are made aware of the issue. The manufacturing facility’s internal detection systems identified the concern.

The specific products recalled are:

  • SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter, 40oz
  • SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter – Club, 2/40oz
  • SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter, 16.3oz
  • SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter Blended With Plant Protein, 14oz

  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Poor recovery from exercise and weakness
  • Skin irritation

  • Anemia
  • Higher risk for heart attacks

Next Steps

If you regularly consume any of the products listed above, Skippy recommends you take the following steps:
