Homemade hand soap - Dr. Axe

This homemade hand soap recipe is incredible! It’s easy to make, very cost-effective and smells amazing.

This recipe leaves a cooling sensation without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Try it today.

Key ingredients

All you need to make this homemade hand soap recipe is some Castile soap, peppermint essential oil and water — along with a safe soap dispenser. That’s it!

The Castile soap is the base, of course, and it’s a perfect hand soap for just about anyone.

Why? For starters, it’s hypoallergenic, making it gentle and safe to use topically for nearly everyone.

In addition, it’s not made with any animal products, making it vegan, and it’s non-toxic to pets (and humans, of course).

It’s also climate-friendly and inexpensive, not to mention versatile enough to use on almost any part of the body.

Peppermint essential oil, meanwhile, has a calming, potent scent that just makes things smell clean. That’s probably because it also does work as a natural cleaner due to its antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

In addition, it’s actually been shown to help boost and protect skin health when used topically, as it is in this homemade hand soap recipe.

How to make homemade hand soap

This homemade hand soap recipe is ready in a matter of minutes.

First, mix the Castile soap and water in a jar or bowl.

Next, add in five drops of peppermint oil, and mix it with the soap/water mixture.

Give it a few stirs, and then pour it into a hand soap dispenser, ideally a BPA-free plastic or glass bottle dispenser.

Now your homemade hand soap is ready to use!

What’s great is you can use a variety of essential oils to make hand soap. Peppermint is a great oil to start with, but you can also use other oils, such as lemon, tea tree, orange or any other cleansing essential oil of your choice.

You can also mix different essential oils together for added benefits and natural fragrances.
