Thank you. I have been diagnosed with beginning stages of Alzheimer’s. I am 76 year old widow and my mother and both of my grandmothers died with Alzheimer’s.

    This recipe sounds awesome.

I’ve been following Dr. Axe for a long time he’s amazing and wonderful and smart! About it years ago I had a health crisis and found him online and have been following him ever since. My husband now is he’s taking his bone broth, protein, vanilla flavor every morning with his vitamins,. We are now empty-nesters and want to stay healthy! We appreciate your dr Axe!

What I have read so far has sparked my interest to learn more about Dr. Axe. I am interested in natural healing without strings attached. I have been disappointed with these with others offering to help to find out that they have hidden agenda. It appears Dr. Axe is the real deal.

Thank you so much, not just for this recipe, but for all you do to help us protect and improve our health. Most people want to know how to make a lot of money, and I don’t want to blame them for that, because living in capitalist society without money isn’t healthy. However living in a any kind of society without optimum health doesn’t do us any good. Regardless how many millions we have, if we are not healthy, it doesn’t do us much good. So, I value your advice than I do a million dollars. The world definitely needs more souls like you. I wish you a wonderful life with your family and those who work with you. Best regards,

Delicious! How can I make this kid friendly? I work with kids and they always want brain boosting foods.

How can they get the protein without the whey protein?

They have soy and dairy allergies so no milk or soy milk…

Complex i know! Aaahhhh please help

    • Barbie on

I’d love to know the answer to this too for my teen daughter. I think I’m going to try replacing the whey powder with hydrolyzed collagen powder.

    Hi Dr Axe
Thank you for this amazing recipe
I am curerntly suffering from UC
Very eager to heal myself as i have had enough of taking medications. My UC is somewhat controlled at the moment (having stopped taking meds) but i am starting to feel the pressure and pain in my rectum. I shall be undergoing a “healing diet” I have a question regarding smoothies. Is it okay to add sweet ingredients ie fruits including honey to these smoothies as i wish to eliminate SUGAR completely from within this diet. May i add substitues? & also what types of nuts may i consume? Please kindly advise what you recommend. Many thanks :)

  9. Gloria on

Thanks for your articles. They have shed great light on how to improve many health problems now going through; leg cramps as an example. Highly appreciated!

  10. Myra on

Dr. Axe, one of my family members just suffered from a mini-stroke. Would this help improve their memory, and do you have any substitutions for someone with diabetes + high blood pressure? i also can’t use the protein powder, as they are supposed to lower their sodium and sugar intake (as in processed sugars).

  11. Carolyn on

Can I add turmeric to my smoothie to help my immune system to get stronger, due to having valley fever and to also help my brain since I’m beginning to struggle some with memory?

  12. Brigette Reimschussel on

What else can I use in place of blue berries? I can not eat them to being allergic to them

    • Dr. Josh Axe on

Hi Alberto, I don’t particularly recommend this smoothie for diabetics because of the sugar and dairy contents. Here is a recipe you might try instead, replacing the whey protein with a non-dairy protein powder: I hope this helps!

    Hi Dr. Axe
I had been eating peanuts from about the age of 12. As I got older I could eat bags after bags. For about the last 8yrs, i cannot eat any kind of nuts. I would become extremely constipated. Please help me, I really like nuts especially cashews and peanuts. I need help! Thank you

  14. Bijal on

    Hi Doctor

I have been suffering from short term memory problems since a brain surgery last Oct. what smoothies do you suggest that will help me in improving my short term memory?

    Thanks ever so much!

    • Rmax on

Memory problems are caused by aluminium & mineral deficiency.

Kravat & purim, as well as citrate malic acid, are great for detoxing aluminium.

For mineral deficiencies, mineral shots, shots of lemon mixed with celtic salt & bicarb soda on a daily basis, or 3 times a day, should solve your memory problems.

    • Carolyn on

Could I add Turmeric to the smoothie? If so, how much? I have valley fever and need to improve my immune system. Also, I need to help my brain, as I am struggling with my memory some.

Your articles are all very informative. My son is 38 years old, married with 4 children. He makes 90 to 100 deliveries a day at his present job (although due to a sudden illness has not worked since January. ) is an avid runner and has not had any health problems up until summer of 2015 had gall bladder removed. In November he had a catherization which came out clear, no blockages, no plaque etc….but had a chest flutter which caused dizziness and out of breath. A loop reader was inserted which was removed 4 hours later and replaced with a pacemaker because his heart stopped just before he was to be released from this out patient procedure. ???? still was having the flutter dizziness and out of breath when going up steps. which continued to get worse . End of January he went to ER with dizziness, horrific migraine, neck pain and his legs are so crampy that he can barely walk without assistance. Er docs said it was anxiety. so we went to a very large clinic in our state. Was given several test, tilt table test, etc. kept adjusting his pacemaker, although every cardic doc said he had no heart issues. spent 7 days in this clinic, was released and said to go to physical therapy. Had a spinal tap which shows normal. We are at our wits end. Any suggestions?

    • Cole J. on

Symptoms sound familiar to mine. Went to doctor after doctor and the specialist yelled at me that there was nothing wrong. Tests all came back negative but turns out I had Lyme disease. Makes sense if he’s an outdoor person. Most Lyme tests will also come back negative so don’t trust them. Lyme imitates many diseases so do your own research. Find a reputable Lyme literate doctor.

Your son has classic low magnesium deficiency symptoms, get his magnesium deficiency fixed before it gets worse

Get him to soak in epsom salts & take some transdermal magnesium.

He also needs mineral shots, shots of lemon mixed with celtic salt & bicarb soda.

The above will fix most of his symptoms.

The level of questions about this very simple smoothie is astounding, I’m sure for Dr Axe too! Please take note that the point is “healthy oils for good brain function” . So if you have sensitivities to any of the oil ingreds, fruits, nuts, whey, etc you of course can substitute easily and you will still have an awesome healthy smoothie. The rest is common sense. Very yummy!

  18. Diane on

What can I substitute for the banana? I have a sensitivity to the inulin in bananas and cannot eat them. If there isn’t a substitute, can I just eliminate it?
Also I don’t think I should have the whey powder as I have a lactose problem. Is there some sort of substitute for the whey that does not include a bean or pea powder, since I am on the FODMAPS diet due to an IBS condition. Any suggestions are welcome and thank you!

  19. Stephanie on

Pre-ordered Eat Dirt. Can’t wait till it arrives!

Can I substitute pecans for walnuts? We have tons of pecans.
Also, how many calories is one 8 oz glass of this smoothie?

    Hi Dr. Axe,

Hope all is well. My daughter struggles with her classes. She studies all of the time and talks to her teachers and get tutors, but still is having a difficult time with her college science classes. She did not test for a learning disability, but does have issues with memory. What do you suggest for her. I really need to help her ASAP. I am worried about her stress level as she is also fighting an automimmune disorder. Please help. She wants to be a doctor and is a Biology major.

Hi doctor! What if I my hometown doesn’t sell any blueberries, vanilla whye protein powder, and wallnuts? What ingridients can I substitute with them? My towns isn’t your typical town. If their is one of those ingridients then it may cost in a higher price. That’s all , Thank you.

I had surgery on oct 22 for brain tumour which turned out to be a glioblastoma multiforme. Ihave completed radiation 30 treatments and am presently on chemo fo another 6 mths – Temozolomide. Is there any juice you would especially reccomend. My husband and I make smoothies every morning. We have both a juicer and a bullet- ninja. Thankyou

      • Kathy on

Jan Stevens needs to check out Duke University per a Dr.FRiedman who knows all about GLIOBLASTOMA brain tumors. This is a fast growing tumor and deadly. He works on a team of Drs. Who inject the polio virus directly to the tumor. It is working with patients. Radation and chemo will eventually end her LIfe. I know all about this tumor as my 24 yr.old daughter lost her life to this tumor. There are so many ways to turn around cancer with health and nutrition. I will pray for her.

I just found your website and had a couple of questions about your Brain Boosting Smoothie. My son gets migraines almost everyday. I also have a friend that has a constant headache. Yes I mean 24 hours a day, some worse than others and it NEVER goes away and she has been to every doctor in our area and no one can help her get ride of the headaches. Crazy I know. I wondered is there more than just this Smoothie in the morning to help with her headache. My daughter and I are going to start some of your recipes to see how we feel.
    Thanks for your help.

      Check this out:
I would also look into using some peppermint and lavender essential oils on the temples and base of the skull
For more information on the oils and how to use them, email me at [email protected]

      • Sandra G on

My husband is the same way. I just used Young Living peppermint oil on my husband last night and he didn’t have to take any pain killers ?

    • Carol on

My daughter use to get headaches daily. Then she cut out gluten. It took about a week but that did the trick. No more headaches.

    • Sue on

My daughter suffered from a migraine that no medicine could touch. She was in middle school at the time. I had her braces removed…and found a physical therapist that said her sphenoid bone was off and her bones in the back of her head were not hinging correctly. She had several treatments. Headaches went away. Her braces went back on after 6 months. She hasn’t suffered from migraines since.

    • Jacquie on

I just came upon your message about your son and friend having constant headaches.
I was a walking headache for years, until I was diagnosed with Celiac, and that was by accident. Once I got off wheat / gluten products, my headaches went away. It would be worth looking into this. Good luck.

      • Angela on

I used to get lots of headaches & it just happened by chance l was asked to get tested for fructose intolerance & l was so l now discovered garlic is a real trigger which gives me migraines so now l don’t have it & hardly suffer from any migraines now

    • Theresa on

Tell her to read and research about MAGNESIUM, its a powerful Trace Mineral that we need like our heart. When we have a MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY it doesn’t show up as does an Iron deficiency, sometimes we only have 1% in our bones. I read that Magnesium Deficiencies are a contributing factor in Migraines. Magnesium totally revived me from being Chronically Lethargic and suffering from headaches every morning. Please, research Magnesium Deficiency.

    • Helen on

This is ages ago, but I had constant headaches for years, with me I worked out it was histamine intolerance, I didn’t start taking histamines either…not good unless absolutely necessary. I cut out various foods, but find a tablespoonful of olive oil a day can help the body deal with histamine. Even eating triggers histamine release, and with me my inside of mouth swells up which is interesting ! There is a lot of information out there, not all good.

Thanks to Josh for all his useful articles too, God bless.

    • Pamela Ann Ezell on

I used to have constant migraine headaches for 11 months along with vertigo. No medication relieved them. I was curled up in a fetal ball with horrific pain and suffering.

Then I tried coffee enemas. The first treatment removed the headaches and gave me back my life!

I used the Gerson Method. YouTube videos are available. I always do a water rinse first and add 1/4 t. Of Redmond’s real salt and 1t. Of oil of magnesium to relax and smooth my tummy. I hold the coffee solution for 15 minutes.

I discovered that I had MTHFR genetic mutations that prevented my liver from properly detoxifying my body… and I needed to raise my glutathione levels.

I have learned massive amounts of info on this subject and more plus have a much happier productive life now.

    • Pamela Ann Ezell on

I also learned about Histamine intolerance/ MAST Cell activation, the foods and situations that trigger them and the foods that calm them down plus the importance of DAO enzymes to destroy over produced histamines.

Histamine over abundance can cause tremendous suffering in our bodies. Get educated and apply your knowledge. Huge game changer for the better!!!!

Love and appreciate you Dr. Draxe…and not in a weird way. No worries. I’ve got kiddos your age.
      He he he!

      • Kanisha on

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does it mean to sprout them first (if you could explain it in dummy terms).

      • Barbara on

Sprouting nuts and grains means soaking overnight in pure water, then rinse thoroughly and use immediately or dry in a dehydrator.

Why? Raw Nuts and grains have a natural anti-nutrient component to keep them from sprouting before they are planted. These anti-nutrients are called phytates and make them hard to digest until they are sprouted. Hope that helps.

Hi, thank you for this great recipe. I am currently at my last phase of my master’s dissertation and working fulltime makes my brain feel exhausted at the end of the day and I find it difficult to concentrate. If you have more advice on brain boosting and general energy boosting it would be much appreciated.
I would also like to thank you for all this information and support you give us on the most important thing in our lives…our health. The world needs more people like you.
    Best wishes,
