Why Make Your Own Taco Seasoning?

There are a lot variations when it comes to taco seasoning mix recipes. The ingredients can really depend on the spices you like (or don’t like) and exactly what dish you’re going to be using the taco seasoning on.

There are so many great reasons to make homemade taco seasoning. First off, you can have complete control over what goes into the mix. Pre-packaged mixes often have unwanted ingredients such as sugar and “natural flavor,” as well other questionable additives and preservatives. There’s no need for any of this in a good taco seasoning! Why not keep it simple?

I’ll have to try your recipe! It looks good! Here is the one I have been using for a few years now. We don’t need sugar or any of the other ingredients listed on the package of store bought mixes! I read ingredients on everything these days and usually put them back on the shelf, sigh, and go home to make my own! Especially with tortilla shells! I make my own Fajita seasoning, all season blend, poultry seasoning, and all salad dressings. No preservatives here!!!

    Yield: 3 Tbs. = 1 – 4 oz. Pkg.

    1 Tbs. Chili Powder
    2 tsp. Onion Powder
    1 tsp. each:
    Ground Cumin
    Garlic Powder
    Paprika
    Powdered Oregano
    ½ tsp. Sea Salt

    I usually make a larger batch…

    Yield: 12 Tbs.
    ½ c. + 1 Tbs. Chili Powder
    6 Tbs. Onion Powder
    3 Tbs. each:
    Ground Cumin
    Garlic Powder
    Paprika
    Powdered Oregano
    4½ tsp. Sea Salt
